Role Overview
We’re seeking an Executive Director, Intellectual Property to join as one of the first members of our in-house Legal function. In this role, you will take ownership of both intellectual property strategy and day-to-day contracting. From licensing and collaborations to clinical trial and vendor agreements, you will play a central role in shaping Tenpoint’s legal posture while partnering cross-functionally across R&D, Clinical, and Commercial.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a growth-stage biotech and own critical areas of legal practice while working closely with Tenpoint’s Head of Legal, CFO, and leadership team. Key Responsibilities
Intellectual Property & Strategic Transactions
- Provide counsel on intellectual property strategy, including licensing, collaborations, trade secrets, and trademark matters.
- Partner with R&D and business development to structure and negotiate agreements that protect Tenpoint’s innovations and advance its pipeline.
- Coordinate with outside counsel on IP portfolio matters, ensuring alignment with Tenpoint’s strategic goals.
Contracts & Commercial Support
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including clinical trial agreements, CRO/vendor agreements, supply chain, consulting, and commercial contracts.
- In partnership with the legal team, establish templates, playbooks, and processes that bring efficiency, consistency, and compliance to contracting.
- Advise stakeholders on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and business implications.
Legal & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Serve as a trusted legal partner to R&D, Clinical, and Commercial leaders, helping the business move quickly while managing risk.
- Support compliance with applicable biotech regulations, data protection requirements, and industry standards.
- Collaborate closely with the Deputy General Counsel on matters spanning corporate governance, compliance, and broader legal initiatives.
Experience
Required:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; member in good standing of at least one US state bar.
- Experience in-house or advising biotech/biopharma clients.
- Demonstrated expertise in intellectual property counseling (licensing, collaborations, trade secrets, trademarks).
- Proven track record drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial and clinical contracts.
- Proficiency in CLM software (LinkSquares experience is preferred)
- Strong business judgment and ability to deliver pragmatic, solutions-oriented advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across functions and levels.
Preferred:
- Experience in a growth-stage or pre-IPO biotech company.
- Exposure to compliance frameworks in clinical development or commercial operations.
- Familiarity with digital contracting tools and scalable legal operations practices.
