Staff Software Engineer
Bluebird Kids Health
We're building the operating system for pediatric care — and we need someone to set the direction for the frontend. Bluebird Kids Health delivers value-based primary care to underserved kids and families. We're early and moving fast. Our engineering team is four people. That means you'll have a real say in what gets built, how it gets built, and what the experience feels like for families and clinicians using our products every day.
We're not looking for someone to execute a ticket queue. We want someone who cares deeply about the craft — clean architecture, beautiful design, and a great user experience. Because at the end of the day, the person on the other side of the screen is a parent who’s trying to do their best for their child, and so should we.
What you'd actually work on
- Establish our frontend component system and use it to ship patient-facing products
- Build a unified platform our providers and staff can use to manage complex workflows with ease
- Untangle and harden our XState-driven registration flow, improving a tricky area of our codebase
- Own frontend performance — bundle optimization, lazy loading, and core web vitals
- Shape how AI makes pediatric care more accessible for families and more effective for providers
What we're looking for
- 8+ years building production frontend applications
- Fluency in React, TypeScript, and JavaScript (ES6+)
- Experience with TanStack libraries (Query, Router, Table) and XState for state management
- E2E testing with Cypress or Playwright to ensure confidence in releases
- Comfortable working directly in Figma to achieve pixel-perfect implementation
- Good instincts about when to reach for a clever abstraction and when to just ship
- Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development — you're already using these tools and staying ahead of it
- Must already have U.S. work authorization and live in the East-Coast time zone
- Bonus: React Native experience, AWS familiarity, or prior work in healthcare
Why this role
- You'll be engineer #4 and our most senior frontend engineer. Your fingerprints will be on everything
- The work matters. Features directly affect families navigating their children's healthcare
- We ship daily. Our family web app is live and booking real appointments today
- You'll collaborate directly with clinical and ops teams to understand what they need
- Competitive comp, equity, full benefits, flexible remote work with an office in Needham, MA
Interview process
We respect your time. Here's what to expect:
- Intro call (~30 min)- Mutual fit, your background, what we're building
- 2–3 short technical interviews - Focused conversations on frontend depth, architecture, and past work
- Virtual onsite- You'll tackle a small hands-on project, riff on ideas with the team, and meet the people you'd be working with every day
