Analytics Engineer
Bluebird Kids Health
About the Company
Bluebird Kids Health is a dynamic organization that provides underserved communities with new access to value-based pediatric primary care. We are on a mission to provide exceptional care, so every child can thrive. We offer comprehensive, evidence-based primary and urgent care services to children and their families, with support around-the-clock. Our care model includes robust care coordination, chronic disease management, and other population health supports. Our success is measured by exceptional health outcomes, lower medical costs, an outstanding child and family experience, and a rewarding environment for our clinicians and staff.
About the Role
We are looking for a talented Analytics Engineer to join the Bluebird Flock and help us make data easily accessible and actionable. This role will be a critical partner across the organization – clinical teams, operations, business and tech. At Bluebird Kids, measurement is fundamental to our strategy. We are a highly goal-oriented organization, and this role is integral to ensuring we can effectively track, analyze and measure our progress toward our mission. You’ll be responsible for curating and maintaining our semantic data model, which includes information from our electronic medical record (EMR), omnichannel contact center, payer data, and other sources. In addition, you’ll build and design analytics dashboards that bring actionable insights to life and drive day-to-day decision making. Our stack includes Snowflake for our data lake, Metabase for dashboarding, and Airflow/dbt for job orchestration and transformations. You’ll live in these tools on a daily basis!
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a semantic data model that serves as the source of truth for all reporting and analytics efforts across Bluebird Kids.
- Build and optimize dashboards using Metabase to democratize data, enabling business and clinical teams to self-serve answers to their questions.
- Own the Bluebird Kids Metric Library, our well-maintained catalog of metrics, their definitions, and use cases.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define key metrics and create reliable, standardized reporting.
- Implement and maintain data pipelines using Airflow and dbt to ensure data availability and integrity.
- Drive ad-hoc analysis and data exploration, providing actionable insights to support decision making.
- Contribute to a data-driven culture by enabling teams to make informed, data-backed decisions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, technical business analysis, or a similar role.
Required Skills
- Expertise in SQL and, ideally, experience working with Snowflake.
- Intermediate to expert familiarity with Python and/or other languages.
- Proficiency with ELT tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect) and dbt for data transformation.
- Experience with Metabase, or other BI tools like Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Strong data modeling skills, with an understanding of dimensional modeling, star schema, and best practices for analytics.
- Ability to translate business needs into scalable data solutions that are easy to query and maintain.
- Familiarity with healthcare data (EHR, claims, provider data, or quality measures) is a strong plus.
- Experience working with event-based data, patient journeys, or healthcare operational analytics is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with technical and nontechnical teams.
