About the role:

We are seeking a driven and knowledgeable Mortgage Account Manager (Deal Desk) to help build and support Unison’s growing Wholesale Mortgage channel. This unique hybrid role combines the relationship management responsibilities of a traditional Account Manager with the strategic deal structuring and scenario support of a Deal Desk Manager.

You will serve as the main point of contact for mortgage brokers utilizing our wholesale products, helping them navigate loan scenarios, understand product fit, and successfully guide loans through the pipeline to closing. You’ll field broker questions, coach them on underwriting and product requirements, and collaborate cross-functionally with underwriting, operations, and internal sales leaders to ensure pipeline success and broker satisfaction.

This is a hybrid position with the requirement of 3 full days in our Omaha, NE or San Francisco, CA office.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary relationship manager for assigned brokers, offering white-glove service and proactive support across all loan stages
  • Act as the Deal Desk point of contact, responding to broker inquiries and evaluating loan scenarios to determine eligibility and best-fit product strategies
  • Coach brokers on how to structure deals to align with Unison’s underwriting guidelines and processes
  • Manage the pipeline for active broker loans: track status, communicate updates, and assist with document and condition submissions
  • Perform initial document review and scenario screening before underwriting to ensure submissions are complete and aligned with product specs
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (e.g., underwriting, sales, compliance) to move deals efficiently through the system and resolve potential bottlenecks
  • Monitor key reporting metrics including expiring locks, aged loans, and exception approvals
  • Maintain a high level of product knowledge across Unison’s mortgage offerings and stay current on updates to guidelines and investor requirements
  • Help design and refine internal deal desk processes for scale as the wholesale channel grows
  • Support training initiatives and internal feedback loops to continuously improve the broker and deal desk experience
  • Verifying and monitoring active MLO licenses through NMLS and state-specific regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with licensing requirements
  • Oversee involved brokers and originators’ presence within California DRE and other state regulatory bodies, including maintaining accurate records of broker and loan officer licensing status across jurisdictions

About you:

  • 5+ years of experience in wholesale mortgage account management, deal desk, loan processing, or underwriting support
  • Deep knowledge of residential mortgage products (FHA, VA, conventional, etc.) and experience navigating investor requirements
  • Strong communication skills with a customer-first mindset and the ability to clearly explain complex mortgage scenarios
  • Excellent attention to detail and pipeline management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience using loan origination systems (e.g., Encompass) and CRM tools
  • Comfortable being both proactive and reactive, balancing broker support with internal collaboration
  • Strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Team-oriented, but capable of working autonomously to drive results
    • It’s a bonus if:
      • You’ve helped build or scale a wholesale or broker channel
      • You’ve supported deal desk operations or scenario desk functions at another lending institution
      • You have Salesforce or other CRM platform experience
      • You have experience training or coaching brokers on systems and product structuring
