Director, Competitive Intelligence

POSITION SUMMARY
As the Director of Competitive Intelligence, you will be a key member of the Commercial Planning team responsible for leading competitive intelligence efforts across Structure Therapeutics. In this high-impact role, you will gather and analyze competitive data from public and proprietary sources to provide strategic insights that inform our product strategy and business decisions. You will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure that the organization remains informed of the evolving competitive landscape – particularly in the metabolic disease space – and proactively identify opportunities and risks. This position will play a critical role in guiding leadership and project teams with timely, actionable intelligence. This role reports to the Senior Director of Commercial Strategy & New Product Planning.
- Preference is for local candidates, and we are moving to a 4-day work week/in the SSF QC office
- If remote, you will be required to work in SSF QC office one week a month
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Competitive Intelligence Strategy
- Develop a comprehensive CI plan to monitor industry trends, competitor pipelines, clinical trial readouts, and market developments in relevant therapeutic areas (with a focus on metabolic diseases such as obesity).
- Develop platform to share real-time view of competitors, that is updated as new data is published.
Data Collection & Analysis
- Collect, analyze, and synthesize competitive information from diverse public and proprietary sources (e.g., scientific publications, press releases, conference presentations, investor reports, databases) to generate meaningful insights.
- Maintain updated and real-time competitive landscape documentation / playbook and dashboards for internal stakeholders.
Insight Dissemination
- Develop effective systems and processes for disseminating competitive intelligence across the company.
- Create regular intelligence reports, newsletters, and presentations to communicate key findings, and deliver real-time alerts on critical market events and competitor actions.
- Present insights to senior leadership and cross-functional teams to drive data-informed decision making.
Strategic Recommendations
- Translate competitive insights into strategic recommendations for internal stakeholders.
- Advise commercial, clinical, and executive teams on the implications of competitors’ activities (e.g., new clinical data, regulatory approvals, business development deals) and recommend proactive strategies in response to emerging threats or opportunities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the subject matter expert on competitor activities and market dynamics, collaborating closely with Commercial Strategy, Business Development, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, and Research.
- Ensure that competitive intelligence is integrated into product development plans, go-to-market strategies, and long-range planning efforts.
Process Improvement & Tools
- Continuously enhance Structure’s CI capabilities by exploring new tools, data sources, and analytical methodologies.
- Establish best practices for competitive intelligence gathering and ensure all CI activities are conducted in an ethical and legally compliant manner.
Conference Coverage
- Plan and lead the coverage of major scientific and medical conferences.
- Monitor and report on competitor presentations, data releases, booth activities, and key opinion leader (KOL) engagements at these events, providing post-conference summaries and analysis of implications for Structure’s programs.
Ad Hoc Projects
- Contribute to cross-functional strategic projects and ad hoc analyses requiring a competitive perspective.
- Assist in the development of target product profiles (TPPs), scenario planning exercises, market research and risk assessments by supplying up-to-date intelligence on external market factors.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in life sciences, pharmacy, engineering, or a related field is required.
- An advanced degree (Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline or MBA with a life science focus) is strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry or life sciences management consulting, with at least 5 years dedicated to competitive intelligence roles.
- Strong understanding of the drug development process and prior experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, clinical, regulatory, commercial) to inform program strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze competitive data, market research, and scientific information to generate actionable insights.
- Proven track record of implementing competitive intelligence tools, databases, or processes to support strategic decision-making.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, compelling insights for senior leadership.
- High proficiency with CI and market analytics resources (e.g., industry databases, intelligence platforms) and comfort working with large data sets.
- Organized self-starter with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in metabolic disease areas (such as obesity) is preferred, but not required.
- Prior experience in a pre-commercial or high-growth biotech company is a plus.
Travel - 25%
The target salary range for this full-time role is $214,000 - $270,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Structure Therapeutics determines salary ranges based on level and scope of responsibilities, as well as location. Individual pay is further determined by additional factors, including relevant experience, specific job skills, education and training.
