2025 Summer Internship Opportunities for Undergraduate - Protein Sciences
Structure Therapeutics
Structure Therapeutics develops life‐changing medicines for patients using advanced structure‐based and computational drug discovery technology. The company’s platform combines the latest advancements in visualization of molecular interactions, computational chemistry, and data integration to design orally available, superior small molecule medicines that overcome current limitations of biologic and peptide drugs. We are advancing a clinical‐stage pipeline of differentiated treatments focused on chronic diseases with high unmet need, including cardiovascular, metabolic, and pulmonary conditions.
Structure Therapeutics is led by an experienced group of international drug innovators and financed by top-tier global life sciences investors. The company has completed an initial public offering (IPO) in February of 2023. With offices in California and Shanghai, Structure Therapeutics has the benefit of being at the center of life science innovation in both the US and China and capitalizing on the strengths of each geographic location.
LOCATION & DURATION
All internships will be based in Shanghai office. This internship starts in June 2025 for approximately 10-12 weeks. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
POSITION SUMMARY
· We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Intern to join our Structural Biology team. In this role, you will contribute to critical pipeline projects focused on membrane protein expression and purification, with an emphasis on GPCRs (G-protein-coupled receptors). Your work will directly support structural determination of drug targets in complex with therapeutic molecules, aiding in the discovery and optimization of novel drug candidates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Design constructs for GPCR expression in transgenic systems.
· Execute GPCR protein expression using insect cell systems and optimize purification protocols.
· Characterize purified GPCR complexes (e.g., assess purity, stability, homogeneity) and analyze data to guide decision-making.
· Collaborate with research partners to generate high-quality GPCR-ligand complex structures.
· Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., medicinal chemistry, biology) to interpret structural data and advance drug discovery programs.
· Present findings and contribute to technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
· Basic knowledge of biochemistry/molecular biology techniques (e.g., protein expression, chromatography).
· Capability in designing and implementing experiments in a logical and consistent manner.
· Demonstrated ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments independently.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Proactive, collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
· A full-time student in an accredited program with plans to return to school in the fall
· All applicants must be at least 18 years of age by June 1, 2025.
What We Offer
· Hands-on experience in cutting-edge drug discovery and structural biology.
· Mentorship from experienced scientists and exposure to cross-functional collaboration.
· Opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects with real-world applications.
· Networking and professional development opportunities.
