Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic legal team. This role will be responsible for managing a wide range of legal issues at the Company’s Shanghai office. The successful candidate will report to the SVP, Legal.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Advise Shanghai Leadership team and Head of Legal on critical legal issues related to Company’s Shanghai operations.
  • Assist Head of Legal in policy making and SOP implementation.
  • Work with Shanghai discovery, finance, operations teams on all aspects of contract procurement including contract review, approval and execution; work with global teams on building contract templates and improving overall efficiency.
  • Work with Legal and IT teams on implementing IT policies to protect Company’s intellectual property.
  • Lead compliance, regulatory and data privacy initiatives for the Shanghai group.
  • Provide advice on government affair initiatives.
  • Assist discovery teams in evaluating external collaboration and BD opportunities from a legal perspective.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Education

    A Juris Doctor from reputable law school or Bachelor of Laws with a LLM required. Bachelor’s degree in life science or a related field referred.

    Experience

    • A minimum of five years of combined law firm and in-house experience advising clients on China related legal issues.
    • Experience working with international biotech companies strongly preferred.
    • Experience working with NASDAQ listed companies preferred.

    Qualifications

    • Extensive experience in managing corporate and research contracts in the biotechnology industry; must be able to negotiate all types of contracts including but not limited MSA, SOW, CDA, MTA, consulting, collaboration, corporate transactions, clinical, manufacturing, etc.
    • Strong legal background in biotech public company corporate matters including legal compliance in China; employment matters, technology export control, cross boarder data privacy.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically.

    Travel

    Willingness to accommodate for calls/meetings with colleagues in other time zones as needed and occasional international travel.
