Our Headquarters are located on the Torrey Pines Mesa, in La Jolla, California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley.
Position Summary:
As the Senior Manager, Electrical Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a team of electrical engineers in the design, development, and implementation of complex electronic systems and products. You will manage day-to-day engineering operations, contribute to the technical execution of projects, and ensure that all work complies with relevant standards and requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and contribute to the execution of electrical engineering efforts from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and release.
- Supervise, mentor, and support a team of electrical engineers. Provide performance feedback, coordinate professional development, and support hiring and onboarding activities.
- Work closely with Mechanical, Systems, Software/Firmware, and Systems Integration teams to ensure cohesive product development and timely project delivery.
- Serve as a hands-on technical leader by reviewing designs, contributing to architecture decisions, and resolving complex engineering challenges.
- Ensure all designs and processes meet applicable codes, regulatory standards, and company quality policies.
- Support continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and documentation to increase efficiency and consistency.
- Identify project and design risks and participate in the development of mitigation plans.
- Work with leadership to support departmental planning, including project staffing, scheduling, and workload balancing.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field is required. A master’s or Ph.D. degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 3–5 years in a technical or people management role. Experience in developing laboratory instrumentation or complex electronic systems is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of electrical design principles, schematic capture, PCB layout, and common simulation tools.
- Proven ability to lead and grow engineering teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering projects on time and within budget, including task tracking and resource coordination.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities across engineering and non-engineering teams.
- Familiarity with industry standards and compliance requirements relevant to electrical, embedded systems and laboratory instrumentation.
The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $142,100 - $182,100. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Should the level of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
