Our Headquarters are located on the Torrey Pines Mesa, in La Jolla, California at the center of the biotech hub. Our Manufacturing facility is in Sorrento Valley. This role is based in our Sorrento Valley location on Mesa Rim Road.

Position Summary:

As a Staff Buyer Planner, you will perform a broad range of duties to support the Supply Chain Department in a very fast- paced working environment. The primary role will be responsible for procuring and planning materials, parts, supplies and equipment in a timely manner, ensuring on time delivery for manufacturing readiness. This position requires a great amount of interdepartmental communication. This role requires detailed follow up with vendors ensuring purchase orders are confirmed and obtaining status updates.

This role is ideally suited to a candidate who is self-motivated and excited by a startup environment where opportunity to rise to frequent and diverse challenges is commonly encountered.

Responsibilities:

General/Direct Material Buys

  • Assure safety stock levels are maintained per min/max reorder points or MRP; monitor material supply flows and address shortages.
  • Maintain strong relations with suppliers, and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Drive supplier scorecards, contribute to audits and reviews.
  • Continually optimize the supply chain; investigate potential suppliers and recommend to Management, negotiate prices and terms as appropriate.
  • Align purchasing to Company supply chain strategies.
  • Reconcile purchasing price and invoice discrepancies with Finance.
  • Handle Engineering Change Order implementations; notify appropriate stakeholders of dispositions, prepare requests for quotations (RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs), examine bids, make award recommendations, and places purchase orders.
  • Adeptly handle exceptions including, component end of life and discontinuances, substitutions, stockouts / backorders, consignments.
  • Handle / collaborate on international buying complexities including contracts, logistics, and currencies.
  • Drive RMAs, and see RTSs to completion.

Expedited Buys

  • Work cross functionally to source and approve new suppliers including rerouting for predictable delivery assurance.
  • Liaise with suppliers and stakeholders to communicate end-to-end status effectively.

Proto-Production and R&D Material Buys

  • Interpret prototype and R&D build plans to determine the need to place and adjust material purchase orders.
  • Schedule and report planning / material readiness to ensure effective prototype and R&D builds via ERP and spreadsheets.

Analysis

  • Perform and present, preferably quantitative, supply chain insights and risk analysis.
  • Advises leadership of supply chain trends and issues that may affect terms and objectives.
  • Deliver weekly metric reports.

Infrastructure

  • Drive ERP and related improvements and expansions.
  • Develop and maintain supplier and procurement policies and procedures.
  • Drive supply chain contract and related form / template improvements.

Indirect Material Backup Buys

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; business, technical or supply chain preferred.
  • 5+ years experience as a senior or staff level buyer / production planner in a technical, medical, or scientific industry.
  • Works independently with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and decision-making experience of purchasing and production planning practices and processes.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Proficient with ERP systems, preferably Netsuite.
  • Technical certifications, such as Six-Sigma, APICS Supply Chain Certifications, preferred.
  • Wide breadth of buying experience.
  • Must have strong desire to provide excellent customer support, going above and beyond to address customer needs.
  • Startup company experience.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Comfortable supporting multiple departments and projects/efforts simultaneously.
  • Works well with others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficient in MS 365 products.
  • Must have a strong sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Must be detail orientated and be able to multi-task in a very fast-paced working environment.
  • Able to think strategically.

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is: $105,000 to $138,400. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Should the level of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
