Job Description

General Summary:

The Process Chemistry Scientist will design and perform synthetic organic experiments efficiently, with a high degree of independence, and appropriately to the stage of development (pre-clinical through Phase 3). The post holder will outline study designs and execute on complex experiments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team creating and improving synthetic approaches to pharmaceuticals
  • Plan and execute synthesis at gram to kilogram scales
  • Develop process understanding through the collection and analysis of data
  • Innovate as a member of the team to solve problems and address project needs
  • Support the team’s delivery of drug substance and intermediates through both in-house synthesis and the use of outsourcing
  • Communicate effectively within an extended team across functional boundaries
  • Makes conceptual contributions to development activities and scientific strategies; introduces some new methodologies and solutions to overcome synthetic and manufacturing obstacles.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Thorough grounding in the core elements of synthetic Organic Chemistry
  • Demonstrable track record of solving complex synthetic problems through own achievements in the laboratory, in either an academic or industrial setting
  • Skilled in the purification and analysis of organic compounds (NMR, HPLC and mass spectrometry)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain complex technical/scientific information to others in a straightforward manner
  • Knowledge of scale-up chemistry and Process Development a plus, but training can be provided to a talented Chemist.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry or BSc/MSc in Chemistry plus experience equivalent to a PhD.
