Global Commercial Strategy Associate Director, ADPKD

Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our Global Commercial Strategy (GCS) team and work on our Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) pipeline program. ADPKD is a genetic kidney disease characterized by the growth of kidney cysts that ultimately results in kidney failure and premature mortality.

The Associate Director GCS will be responsible for developing commercial strategy, generating new market insights, developing and positioning our brand(s), and preparing for launch. This role will report to the Disease Area Executive for AMKD, who leads global commercial strategy and overall disease strategy for the program. The successful candidate will have a track record of impact in commercial roles, a strong consulting skillset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment.

This position is based out of our Boston, MA, HQ in a hybrid model (3 days onsite, 2 days remote on a weekly basis).

Key Responsibilities:

1) Generate market insight:

  • Develop HCP and patient insights in key geographies (e.g., through market research, advisory boards, congresses)

  • Evaluate external landscape and analogues in collaboration with Competitive Intelligence

  • Evolve our understanding of the addressable patient population in collaboration with Health Economics and Outcomes Research

2) Develop commercial strategy for pipeline products:

  • Global scope

  • Includes portfolio, brand, and disease awareness/diagnostic strategies

3) Implement strategy:

  • Translate to tactics

  • Action in collaboration in collaboration with regions/countries, securing medical/legal/regulatory review approval as needed

  • Track progress

4) Lead collaboratively: co-lead cross-functional Global Commercial Team and work with GCS colleagues, key commercial functions (e.g., global value and access strategy, regions, marketing science) and external partners as needed to:

  • Develop commercial strategy

  • Provide commercial input to overall disease area strategy

5) Shape ADPKD contribution to core processes: long range plan, brand planning, budget, strategic planning

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, business, or marketing; preferably graduate degree (MBA or PhD)

Required Experience:

  • 8 years of experience in commercial pharmaceutical/healthcare roles, including campaign development and launch preparation

  • Has developed strategy for pipeline products

  • Experience in rare disease, genetic disease, and/or kidney disease and/or international markets

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong strategic thinker, with experience in defining the strategy for pipeline products

  • Strong marketer: has developed campaigns and ideally, launched and grown products

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, including quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities

  • Strong leader: demonstrated ability to work independently, work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage internal stakeholders, and work with external partners

  • Superior communication skills: oral and written (in Word and particularly in Powerpoint)

  • Delivery focus: translates strategy into action, gets things done rapidly and well

  • Highly flexible: works well in fast-paced, matrixed environment
