Job Description

General Summary:

The Vertex Internal Communications team is looking for an experienced Human Resources (HR) communications professional with strong writing and editing skills to lead our HR communications strategy and content creation. This person will partner closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and HR Leadership Team to enhance how we engage employees with HR content, unify our tone and voice and effectively communicate annual HR deadlines, such as benefits enrollment, and inform employees about programs, offerings and new initiatives. If you’re nimble, bring creative ideas to the table, have a keen eye for detail, can act as a strategic partner advising and influencing on a variety of , HR, business and change management communications – we’re looking for you! This Boston, MA-based role will report to the Executive Director of Internal Communications.

This is a Hybrid position that requires 3 days in Boston per week.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the HR communication strategy and develop and execute an overall strategic communications plan in collaboration with HR business partners
  • Develop written content for HR communications, including, but not limited to, Total Rewards (benefits and compensation), Talent Management (career growth and development, mentoring), HR communication systems, People Analytics (employee surveys), and the overall employee experience and culture
  • Establish a tone and voice for CHRO and maintain a regular blog cadence on key topics on our intranet
  • Use a metrics-drive approach to define strategy and assess effectiveness of our communications, including developing quarterly metrics reports
  • Manage cadence and flow of communications initiatives, balancing cyclical and programmatic initiatives
  • Respond quickly to timely issues that may arise as needed

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 8-10 years of experience in public relations and/or communications, with a strong background in internal communications

Required knowledge / skills

  • Experience with HR, business and change management communications to employee audiences at all levels
  • Outstanding written, verbal communications and organizational skills
  • Experience writing for a variety of channels (intranet, email, blogs, digital screens, etc.) and audiences (executive, people managers and individual contributor employee levels)
  • Proven ability to think broadly and strategically, connecting communications work to company objectives and considering the implication of his/her projects to other cross-functional workstreams
  • Strong collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills; strong interpersonal skills; a team-player
  • A self-starter with proven ability to take a project from idea to implementation
  • Willingness to think creatively and test new and unproven communications initiatives and channels to achieve communications objectives
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing priorities
