Job Description

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking to hire an HCP Education and Engagement Lead, Associate Director, reporting to the Director, US HCP Marketing, to join our growing US Pain Business Unit in Boston, MA.

The HCP Education and Engagement Lead, Associate Director role is responsible for the strategic development and exemplary implementation of key KTL (Key Thought Leader) engagement and HCP education initiatives. This includes developing a KTL engagement plan, an HCP education plan, US congress plan, and HCP insight and advisory board plan. This role is also responsible for ensuring our US Pain BU is building productive relationships with KTLs and other HCP stakeholders to ensure the successful launch of VX-548 for acute pain. This role will create strategic plans in collaboration with the larger marketing team and across functions and ensure on-strategy execution of key HCP education and engagement initiatives. The successful candidate for this job requires a collaborative and customer focused individual with strong technical and leadership competencies who can prioritize and manage timelines and budgets in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy and execution of HCP education efforts including effective promotional educational program mix: live, virtual, national webinar, clinical consults, symposia, and incorporation of digital strategy for recruitment and follow-up
  • Manage Peer to Peer (P2P) speaker bureau agency, budget, and execution
  • Manage execution of speaker programs in close partnership with field team for proper utilization, reach, and ensure compliance.
  • Manage and execute speaker relationships and speaker trainings including identification criteria, recruitment, speaking training, and regular communication
  • Establish commercial KTL engagement objectives and measurement plan
  • Drive the development of HCP education materials and approval with agency of record. Content includes program presentations that are tailored by specialty and all associated program materials such as invitations.
  • Lead strategy and execution of HCP insight and advisory board plan
  • Closely partner with Legal, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs to obtain alignment, and gain approval for effective marketing materials.
  • Lead strategy and execution for HCP congress planning and activities including exhibits, sponsorship, promotional events, product theaters, etc.
  • Coordinate and prepare yearly compliance review and approvals managing all aspects of the annual needs assessment, year utilization, and speaker recommendations.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel 25-30% - including cross-country.
  • This position is a hybrid position based in Boston.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 8+ years in HCP Marketing, Pharmaceutical Sales and/or Account Management experience, with KTL management experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of hospital marketing experience; experience in acute pain management preferred.
  • Experience developing communications/tactics in U.S. marketing and managing agency efforts.
  • Experience in pain management preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities.
  • Develops strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals and engage above role including close partnership with the field, patient, disease education and program counterparts, serving as a peer leader on the marketing leadership and launch readiness teams.
