Intern Data and Computational Sciences
The Vertex Internship Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. When you join our internship program you should not be surprised to see that our environment is one that is innovative and team oriented, where collaboration is not just a word, and "we are relentless" is in everything we do. Students can expect to be challenged by their project plan, connect with other interns, and feel valued by the Vertex community. Not only will interns learn about their day-to-day tasks through their specific work assignments, but they will interact and have exposure to our organizational leaders and their teams.
We are seeking a graduate student to join Vertex for an internship experience during summer 2024 in the Data and Computational Sciences department. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to assist with enhancing our current biological target prediction capabilities. The summer intern project will focus on evaluating target prediction machine learning models in the public domain as well as building target prediction models using Vertex data. No prior experience working in industry is required.
The candidate will be expected to review the literature on biological target prediction of small molecules
The candidate is expected to implement target prediction models from the public domain
Benchmark andd re-build best performing models using Vertex data
Following guidance from their mentor, the candidate must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
The candidate must be proactive in engaging for support and seeking guidance when needed
The candidate will be required to regularly present their progress in formal and informal settings to colleagues
The primary deliverable will be a Python implementation of biological target prediction models for small molecules that incorporates public data (ie, ChEMBL) as well as Vertex proprietary data. Additionally, a summary report of describing the implementation and benchmark results will be expected. If time permits, a subsequent deliverable will be to integrate this into the global Vertex predictive modeling infrastructure.
