HCP Marketing Associate Director, Heme – US

Location: Boston, MA

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking to hire an HCP Marketing Associate Director, reporting to the Senior Director, US HCP Marketing, to join our growing team in Boston, MA.

The HCP Marketing Associate Director (AD) is a customer-focused role responsible for designing and implementing customer engagement strategy and building processes that connect Vertex US Heme strategic imperatives with a targeted group of key thought leaders (KTLs), transplant physicians, and other HCP stakeholders including those at authorized treatment centers (ATCs). This role is critical as we prepare for the launch of our first genetic therapy for hemoglobinopathies (sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia), exagamglogene autotemcel (exa-cel). The AD will help us understand the dynamics of the HCPs/KTLs who treat patients in the communities we hope to serve, obtain insights that help advance educational offerings by Vertex, and will develop KTL-centric tools, resources and processes that will lead to a higher level of engagement between Vertex and the HCP community. The successful candidate will have an ability to thrive in an environment of rapid change, demonstrate strong communication, work effectively within cross-functional teams, and have a problem-solving and analytical mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the thought leader commercial engagement strategy for the US.

  • Establish commercial KTL engagement objectives and measurement plan.

  • Engage with the HCP community for transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) and sickle cell disease (SCD), including both transplanter surgeon/staff and referring hematologists, to understand community challenges and opportunities influence perceptions, and to develop advocates.

  • Support KTL engagement with the US commercial team, senior leadership, and executive committee throughout the year and at congresses.

  • Lead the commercial planning for congresses including the booths, HCP interactions, etc.

  • Develop and maintain speakers’ bureau: identify and recruit potential speakers, plan speaker trainings, develop compliant Speaker Decks suited for HCP audiences and assist speakers with completion of annual training.

  • Maintain strategic council: recruit and manage all participants.

  • Partner with KTLs and strategic council to identify and refine peer-to-peer program offerings to ensure they resonate with key customers.

  • Lead advisory board planning and execution: help identify appropriate advisors and provide input on objectives and agenda.

  • Maintain current scientific knowledge.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams: marketing, field leadership, medical, and advocacy.

  • Be the liaison between the HCP marketing team and internal Business Systems team to maximize current technology offerings and roadmap future offerings: serve as the point of contact for the Veeva CRM team, the marketing champion for CRM training and the steward of the media library.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel 10-20% - to include cross-country.

  • This position is a hybrid position based in Boston.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 8+ years in HCP Marketing, Pharmaceutical Sales and/or Account Management experience, with KTL management experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage initiatives that require collaboration across multiple functional areas.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems.

  • Strong written communication skills, presentation delivery, and interpersonal skills to be effective in a team environment. A solid compliance mindset and demonstrated integrity on the job.
