Fall 2025 Co-op: Protein Sciences
Prime Medicine
Company Overview:
Prime Medicine is a leading biotechnology company dedicated to creating and delivering the next generation of gene editing therapies to patients. The Company is leveraging its proprietary Prime Editing platform, a versatile, precise and efficient gene editing technology, to develop a new class of differentiated, one-time, potentially curative genetic therapies. Designed to make only the right edit at the right position within a gene while minimizing unwanted DNA modifications, Prime Editors have the potential to repair almost all types of genetic mutations and work in many different tissues, organs and cell types.
Prime Medicine is currently progressing a diversified portfolio of eighteen programs initially focused on genetic diseases with a fast, direct path to treating patients or with a high unmet need because they cannot be treated using other gene-editing approaches. Over time, the Company intends to maximize Prime Editing’s therapeutic potential and advance potentially curative therapeutic options to patients for a broad spectrum of diseases. Co-op Assignment Overview
Prime Medicine is seeking a co-op for the Fall 2025 semester with experience in Biochemistry/Biophysics to join the RNA Technologies and Protein Sciences team. The candidate will be part of the Protein Sciences team, which leverages biochemical and biophysical assays to enable the in-vitro characterization of next-generation Prime Editing components. In this role, the data you generate will help provide insights that inform strategies for improving our therapeutic pipeline. Therefore, we are seeking a motivated team player who is detail-oriented and eager to continuously learn and adapt. During your tenure at Prime Medicine, you will refine your skills in various industry-standard biochemical and biophysical assays and learn how they are applied to aid in structure-activity relationships (SAR).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the Protein Sciences team in characterizing enzymatic activities of Prime Editors using fluorescence-based assays and their cognate ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes.
- Utilize biolayer interferometry to elucidate key biophysical parameters governing binding interactions between drug product constituents.
- Regularly generate and contribute data to inform pipeline strategies and advance the therapeutic potential of Prime Editors. This includes leveraging biochemical assays to measure kinetic rates of Prime editing steps in cell-free systems, providing mechanistic insights that inform both the modeling of existing editors and the advancement of next-generation Prime Editors.
- Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data in internal and cross-functional team meetings.
- Maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation of experiments in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN).
Qualifications:
- Current B.S. or M.S. candidate in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry principles.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment to solve complex scientific problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, etc.).
- Familiarity with aseptic techniques.
- Completion of relevant coursework with an associated laboratory component in Biochemistry.
- Prior experience or coursework involving enzyme kinetics, biophysical analysis, and/or plate-based assays.
What We Offer:
- A cutting-edge team open to mentorship and networking.
- Full reimbursement for monthly commuting costs including MBTA, Commuter Rail, or Bluebikes, etc.
- Participation in regular seminars with industry experts.
- Full participation in employee activities including learning and development offerings, social activities, etc.
NOTE: We are currently not considering co-op candidates outside of the local Boston/Cambridge area.
