Co-Op Assignment Overview
Prime Medicine is seeking a co-op for the Spring 2024 semester with experience in Biology, Chemical Biology, or related subjects to join the Platform Delivery Innovation team. The successful candidate will join a team working to increase the safety and potency of Prime’s viral vectors. In this position, the co-op will support projects designed to minimize viral genome size, maximize potency, and increase control of Prime Editor expression. They will gain experience in molecular biology, genome editing, and viral vector production. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, evolving research program and be comfortable in a role supporting a range of therapeutic areas.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Mammalian cell transfection and analyses including next-generation sequencing
- Production and purification of AAV vectors using aseptic technique
- Cloning and production of plasmid DNA using standard molecular biology techniques
- Maintain thorough electronic records and lab notebooks, and present findings to multi-disciplinary teams in oral and written formats
Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. candidate in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemistry or related major
- Basic knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team in a collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with transfection or transduction of mammalian cells
- Experience with basic molecular biology assays (DNA extraction, PCR etc)
- Conceptual or hands-on experience with design and/or production of viral vectors
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and excellent problem-solving abilities
