About us

Owkin is an AI company on a mission to solve the complexity of biology. It is building the first Biology Super Intelligence (BASI) by combining powerful biological large language models, multimodal patient data, and agentic software. At the heart of this system is Owkin K, an AI copilot and its new LLM fine-tuned on biology called Owkin Zero, used by researchers, clinicians, and drug developers to better understand biology, validate scientific hypotheses, and deliver better diagnostics and therapies faster.

Position is based in our Paris office.

Please submit your CV in English

About the role:

We are looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join our Forward Deployed team for a 6-month internship. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to work on real products at the intersection of AI, machine learning, and drug discovery.

During the internship, you will help integrate machine learning models that run in real time into K-pro, Owkin’s AI co-pilot used by researchers and clinicians. Your work will contribute to building reusable ML components that can be trained and deployed on the fly, supporting current and future use cases.

This is not a typical engineering internship. You will apply your software skills to concrete therapeutic problems and work closely with experts in computational biology, biostatistics, and medical imaging, gaining exposure to how AI is used in real-world biomedical research.

The role is based in our Paris office.

In particular, you will:

  • Learn and work with Owkin’s core tech stack, including K-pro and its multimodal data platform
  • Help build and integrate machine learning models into K-pro for real scientific use cases
  • Work on backend components, APIs, and workflows to ensure models run efficiently and smoothly for users
  • Contribute to proof-of-concept features that allow users to explore and predict signals from biological data
  • Support the development of biological target ranking features and related visualizations
  • Document your work, share learnings with the team, and present outcomes at the end of the internship

About you

Required qualifications / experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's degree (M2) or final year of engineering school in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python with experience in software development best practices (version control, code reviews, testing)
  • Familiarity with backend development and API design (REST APIs, async programming)
  • Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), AI agents and prompt engineering
  • Good communication skills, comfortable working with cross-functional teams and non-technical users
  • Curious and eager to learn about computational biology, medical imaging, and therapeutic applications
  • Autonomous, proactive, and impact-oriented mindset
  • Fluent in English (working language)

Preferred qualifications/bonus:

  • Prior internship or project experience in ML engineering, MLOps, or production ML systems
  • Understanding of machine learning fundamentals and experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
  • Experience with bioinformatics, computational biology, medical imaging, histopathology, immunohistochemistry (IHC), or healthcare data
  • Knowledge of data visualization libraries (Plotly, Matplotlib, etc.)
