Senior Software Engineer II
Location: Valencia hybrid but will consider Spain remote for the right calibre of candidate
The Opportunity

At Flywire, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer II — ideally with a background in FinTech — to help build and scale the platform that powers our industry-leading payment engine, moving hundreds of millions every day.
You’ll join a collaborative team focused on designing new functionality and enhancing existing capabilities to drive speed, cost-efficiency, and scalability. Success here means more than writing great code: it’s about problem-solving pragmatically, taking ownership as a team, and delivering impact that’s felt across Flywire and our clients worldwide.
What You’ll Do
- ✍️ Write clean, secure, high-quality, testable, and maintainable code
- 🐞 Resolve complex bugs and production issues, ensuring system stability
- 🧠 Analyse challenging problems where multiple variables demand thoughtful solutions
- ⚖️ Exercise sound judgement when selecting methods, tools, and evaluation criteria
- ⚡ Drive improvements in scalability and performance across our systems
- 🔄 Lead change and improvement through all phases of the development lifecycle
- 🤝 Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to shape product vision
- 🌱 Mentor teammates and take initiative in leading technical projects
- 🎯 Support recruitment by identifying and inspiring great engineering talent
- ✅ Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of our applications
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in web application development
- Proven expertise in building scalable, performant, and reliable distributed systems
- Strong foundations in object-oriented programming and relational databases
- Skilled in test-driven and behaviour-driven development (TDD/BDD)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices
- Ability to partner effectively with QAs, Product, and SREs in a cross-functional team
- Excellent communication skills — able to convey complex ideas clearly
- Fluent in English (our company’s working language)
- Experience in FinTech or the payments industry (a plus, not required)
- A passion for delivering high-quality code and continuously learning
