The Opportunity
Flywire is seeking an experienced Manager II, Software Engineering—ideally with a FinTech background—to lead a small, high-performing team that powers our industry-leading payment engine.

You’ll guide your team in designing new features, optimising existing capabilities, and delivering a platform that is faster, more scalable, and more cost-efficient. This role blends technical leadership, hands-on coding, and team management, with a shared commitment to quality, collaboration, and ownership.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, coach, and support a small team of engineers, ensuring delivery of high-quality, secure, and maintainable code.
  • Set priorities, track progress against goals, and ensure timely delivery of projects.
  • Play an active technical role—writing clean, testable code and solving complex engineering challenges.
  • Drive improvements in scalability, performance, and reliability across our platform.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, QAs, SREs, and stakeholders to shape the product vision.
  • Provide estimates, assess risks, and manage resources effectively.
  • Contribute to recruitment by attracting and engaging top engineering talent.
  • Champion best practices in CI/CD, TDD, and BDD throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Ensure applications meet the highest standards for performance, quality, and responsiveness.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years in web application development.
  • 2+ years managing and developing engineering teams.
  • Proven experience building scalable, performant, and reliable distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of OOP, relational databases, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Skilled in CI/CD pipelines and testing methodologies (TDD/BDD).
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • FinTech or payments industry experience (preferred).
  • Ability to deliver high-quality code while learning and adapting quickly.
