About You
You are a motivated self-starter that is excited by the opportunity to build Canary’s Finance department for scale. You have strong operational experience, excellent communication skills, and a data-driven approach to managing receivables and payables. You’ll be the first dedicated hire owning working capital and your role will help ensure that every dollar in and out of the business is working efficiently.
Mission of the Role
We’re looking for a strategic Working Capital Manager to take ownership of our working capital engine, drive cash flow optimization, and lay the operational groundwork for scale. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the VP of Finance and working with every department at the company.
Responsibilities
- Own the full AR and AP lifecycle and automate workflows for each key component of working capital
- Develop and monitor AR/ AP health metricsImplement consistent and scalable vendor onboarding and compliance processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate payments while optimizing payment timing to preserve cash.
- Review and maintain vendor agreements to align payment terms with cash flow strategy.
- Administer and improve expense reimbursement policies and ensure policy compliance
- Analyze trends and partner with FP&A to forecast and model cash scenarios.
- Develop dashboards to increase visibility into the cash conversion cycle.
- Support audits and tax prep with clean, organized documentation.
- Serve as a key stakeholder in ERP and financial system upgrades related to AR/ AP.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive experience in AR/AP management, treasury or financial operations.
- Experience working in high-growth or startup environments preferred.
- Deep knowledge of billing, collections, vendor management, and payment systems.
- Process-oriented, detail-driven, and fluent in accounting basics.
- Proven track record of implementing process improvements and automation.
- Strong communicator and collaborator who enjoys both strategy and execution.
- Experience working with and optimizing financial systems.
- Demonstrated experience in leading small, agile teams while balancing IC responsibilities.
