Biotechnology is rewriting life as we know it, from the medicines we take, to the crops we grow, the materials we wear, and the household goods that we rely on every day. But moving at the new speed of science requires better technology.

Benchling’s mission is to unlock the power of biotechnology. The world’s most innovative biotech companies use Benchling’s R&D Cloud to power the development of breakthrough products and accelerate time to milestone and market.

Come help us bring modern software to modern science.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We're looking for Software Engineer interns to join our Summer 2024 intern class in Boston or San Francisco. As an intern, you'll be entrusted with a significant degree of ownership to work on either platform and infrastructure or product and application teams. You'll learn to design complex and highly scalable products and systems that will directly impact our customers or other Benchlings! Our past interns have worked on building heat maps for our analytics product, adding API endpoints for our Molecular Biology suite, and migrating the authentication model for Benchling Apps to OAuth 2.0.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will own a project end-to-end, from initial design, to prototype, to large-scale rollout. You might:

  • Design and implement backend models and API endpoints for complex scientific workflows.
  • Build and operate rich frontend components and visualizations.
  • Design and build a platform framework or infrastructure tool for other Benchling engineers to use.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must haves:

  • Current enrollment in a BS/MS degree in computer science and/or STEM fields with an expected graduation date between Dec 2024 and June 2025.
  • A prior software engineering internship or similar experience.
  • Strong abilities in problem solving and iterating on feedback.
  • A desire to have ownership over building key pieces of product and/or platform.
  • A product-first approach to building software. You ship code quickly and care about the real world impact of your code.

Nice to haves:

  • Passion for learning about life science.

SALARY RANGE

Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay. For this role, the hourly pay is $60.00 per hour.

PLEASE NOTE: University Recruiting team reviews every application, you'll receive an update on your application status within a few weeks.
