Position Summary:

Apellis is seeking a passionate and talented patient marketer for the role of Associate Director, US EMPAVELI Patient Marketing Lead – Nephrology. It is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant impact for patients and the company, leading US patient and caregiver marketing for the first follow-on indication launch for EMPAVELI in C3G/primary IC-MPGN.

The US Patient Marketing Lead will be the hub of patient and caregiver strategy, insights, and centricity for EMPAVELI in nephrology, enabling a focus on delivering against the desired patient experience while achieving corporate goals. As this is a franchise, they will need to be mindful of the experience that has been created with the EMPAVELI brand for PNH and how that translates to the nephrology space. It will be critical to maintain the integrity of the brand while identifying the nuanced needs of caregivers and people with C3G and primary IC-MPGN. They will be responsible for building and executing patient and caregiver marketing plans for market shaping and product launch. They will be deeply engaged with cross-functional partners, fostering collaboration and accountability. They will report to the Senior Director, US Brand Lead.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Translate EMPAVELI and C3G Brand strategies into objectives and strategies for US patient and caregivers.
  • Represent the voice of the patient to shape the overall brand strategy
  • Create a vision and plan for patient and caregiver marketing in the US for both market shaping and the launch of pegcetacoplan in C3G/IC-MPGN, leveraging appropriate resources and materials that have been created with PNH. Lead agencies in the execution of that plan
  • Build out team in advance of launch and lead team to deliver on tactics and achieve brand KPIs
  • Lead development and deployment of pre-launch and post-launch initiatives across channels – including personal and non-personal
  • Partner with the PNH marketing team to ensure alignment and efficiencies where possible
  • Effectively socialize patient strategy, plan, and core marketing activities within the US organization
  • Build and nurture strong, positive relationships with key cross-functional partners, including medical affairs, patient services, patient advocacy, and field teams. Use those partnerships to uncover insights that can help guide marketing execution. Leverage those relationships to ensure partner execution in line with strategy / plan
  • Support pull through of key projects and activities and build out
  • Think holistically about the business and closely monitor performance against key metrics, taking accountability for driving success of patient-facing initiatives over the long-term in a evolving competitive market
  • Help breed a culture of patient-focus and customer-centricity throughout the organization
  • Efficiently and thoughtfully administer the patient marketing budget
  • Work closely with regulatory, legal, and compliance to build policies and procedures related to patient and caregiver marketing, including social media

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BS/BA degree, MBA preferred

Experience:

  • 6+ years of biotech/pharma experience, predominantly in patient and HCP marketing roles of increasing scope and responsibility
  • Experience in affiliate launches and rare diseases is preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Passion for understanding and championing the needs of people living with rare diseases and their caregivers, translating them into market-moving insights
  • Experience building an affiliate patient and caregiver marketing plan, with depth in both personal and multi-channel marketing
  • Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, managing through ambiguity
  • Commitment to collaboration and engagement, with a history of success leading in a matrix environment and with agency partners
  • An entrepreneurial spirit coupled with the drive to embrace innovation and develop creative but well-reasoned solutions to business challenges
  • Motivation to be a part of envisioning and building the infrastructure, systems, and tactics to ensure launch success
  • Demonstrated integrity on the job, including an understanding of relevant rules and regulations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and varying levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage reports, focused on building culture, executing deliverables, and supporting development

Travel Requirements:

  • Willing to travel domestically up to 30% of the time and attend events outside of business hours (e.g., occasional weekends and evenings)
