Patient Experience and Program Communications, Senior Manager
Vertex is seeking a talented communications expert to join our US Pain Business Unit to support our journey to bring forth new options for the treatment of pain. The US Pain Business Unit is preparing for potential commercialization of an investigational novel selective inhibitor of NaV1.8 in acute pain. This individual will be charged with bringing the patient to the center of all we do – given the broad and transient nature of the acute pain population, driving a constant focus on patient centricity.
The Senior Patient Experience and Program Communications Manager is part of the Pain Programs and Patient Support Team and participates in the day-to-day execution of the patient communications strategy that supports those receiving patient support. This role will aim to simplify the patient access experience by developing access and onboarding resources, tools and messaging that help patients with Acute pain obtain access, and engage in their treatment discussions. This individual must share a passion for and commitment to helping patients as well as the vision to continually enhance the patient experience by meeting evolving patient needs and addressing changes from the external landscape.
We are seeking a candidate that has a strong track record in US commercial roles, experience navigating Medical, Legal and Regulatory reviews, demonstrated success leading complex cross-functional workstreams and the ability to drive stakeholder alignment across various levels. The candidate needs must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused and compliance-minded environment. This role is based onsite at our Boston Seaport headquarters and will report to the Director of Pain Programs and Patient Support.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Shapes the Programs and PSP brand strategy and tactical plans including evaluating our brand and setting the long term vision, the annual planning process and related patient support communications execution
Participate in the creation and execution of tactical plans for patient centric resources and tools to deliver product education, access, reimbursement, and financial assistance etc. related content delivered by Programs and Patient Support
Build digital assets and drive awareness through appropriate channels
Creates exceptional patient experience through delivering, innovating and building our communications capabilities to address anticipated patient needs
Collaborate with US Marketing colleagues to utilize branded product education and unbranded support materials for delivery of tailored patient support to those on a Vertex medicine
Cultivate strong partnerships with cross-functional teams including the communications review committee (CRC) and Compliance to support business goals with compliance top of mind
Owns agency relationships and performance to meet budget targets and deadlines
Drives innovative use of resources and technologies and appropriate mix of channels to enhance the patient experience
Liaise with fulfillment partners to manage inventory and ordering of materials
Craft relevant talking points that equip the Patient Support Team and Field Teams for their patient and HCPs engagements
Establish measurement plans for all owned materials and continuously monitor performance to inform future optimizations or discontinuation
Required Education Level
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business or related field
Requires 6+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in patient support, marketing, patient engagement, medical advertising, pharmaceutical sales, or other closely related roles.
Required Knowledge / Skills
Excellent communication skills; patient-centric and customer-service minded
Effective project management skills to manage multiple projects and processes
Highly organized with the ability to work independently and facilitate appropriate discernment in decision making
Exhibits ownership and broad accountability for assigned projects
Ability to execute support materials across a variety of channels (e-mail, print, video, text, virtual events, web)
An entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems
Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and results-driven environment within a growing business unit where we are concurrently learning & building as we drive towards product launch
Ability to understand performance analytics and insights and the ability to be able to apply these insights to tactical execution and planning
Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities and ability to model expected behavior for the team
Working knowledge of commercial marketing related software and platforms including Veeva Vault PromoMats, Salesforce CRM, Marketo, Tableau, Smartsheets, etc
