General Summary:

The Vertex Data & Knowledge Management (DKM) team is committed to making data easy to find, use, and trust. We are a newly formed team of motivated professionals driving data integration, data engineering, data management, and business analytics across the organization. At the epicenter of DKM is our Engagement and Governance team where we are responsible for project planning, project delivery execution, and data integrity. The Associate Director, Commercial Data Engagement & Governance will fill a critical need for the Engagement and Governance group.

You will be a highly visible entry point into DKM, interfacing with business users and our IT organization supporting the Commercial function. You will drive out data capability roadmaps based on a deep understanding of business requirements and new or existing DKM capabilities. You will also work with our technology teams – engineers, analysts, and project managers – to transform those requirements into high value and sustainable outcomes. You will also own data integrity within the Commercial function through partnership with our governance technology teams. Ultimately, you are excited by the business value that data-driven processes and technology can unlock, while also bringing an empathetic and learning mindset.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Business Partnership - Lead the identification of business needs for Commercial function to inform a portfolio of programs/projects.

  • Business Partnership - Develop future state data domain roadmaps taking into consideration business needs and our broader IT strategy.

  • Business Partnership - Communicate and drive our Commercial Data Integrity vision and capabilities to business functions.

  • Business Partnership - Track and report to leadership on all key data initiatives supporting the Commercial business.

  • Project Execution - Partner with data portfolio operations to translate business requirements into detailed use cases and user stories.

  • Project Execution - Partner with data engineering and data operations leads to understand strategic and technical roadmaps.

  • Project Execution - Manage a team of consultant Project Execution Leads for our critical initiatives.

  • Project Execution - Ensure that data projects do not duplicate functionality or diverge from each other and business and IT strategies.

  • Internal Knowledge Building - Partner with peer data engagement leads for G&A, Supply Chain & Manufacturing, and Clinical teams to understand internal data capabilities.

  • Internal Knowledge Building - Encourage our data management discipline to grow by mentoring and hiring.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in the leadership or delivery of data-centric solutions in the Commercial area of Life Sciences (8+ years)
  • Demonstrated experience with commonly used data sets in the Commercial area of Life Sciences (8+ years)
  • Knowledge of modern cloud-based data architectures supporting data ingestion, lake/warehouse, analytics, and data management.

  • Knowledge or experience in one or more areas of data governance including related technologies.
  • Training and experience in both Agile and Product Management practice.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to clearly and succinctly express ideas.

  • Knowledge, understanding, or experience in a Biopharma environment.

  • Demonstrate analytical, objective, and strategic mindset and a drive to learn new technologies.
  • Demonstrate project and program management planning and organizational skills
  • Systems thinking – the ability to see how parts interact with the whole

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related technology degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in technology industry or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
