Job Description
General Summary:
The Pathology Research Associate will perform routine and specialized histology techniques, wet lab work, data acquisition and compilation using state-of-the-art molecular pathology techniques. The incumbent will interface closely with other scientists, veterinary pathologists and histotechnologists in PSA as well as other cross-functional project teams to provide timely, high-quality data to support multiple projects across our drug development pipeline.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine histology techniques including tissue processing, trimming of tissues of diverse origin, embedding, paraffin block microtomy and cryo-sectioning
- Setup and perform routine pathology staining techniques including H&E and special stains
- Perform novel molecular pathology assays including IHC, RNAscope, multiplexing using automated platforms (Ventana and Leica) and manual methods
- Perform routine maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment, keep accurate laboratory records, and ensure proper archiving of pathology specimens
- Perform digital image analyses, while generating quantitative data using a variety of Image analysis software (e.g. HALO, MATLAB) to support discovery pathology programs.
- Work with board-certified anatomic pathologists to review, QC, and approve algorithms
- Careful record keeping, follows good laboratory and GLP-like practices.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and provide timely, high-quality results on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
Education and Experience:
- Requires a Bachelors/Masters degree in Biological Sciences
- 1 to 4+ yrs experience working in a research-based laboratory.
