Job Description

General Summary:

The Director, Internal Audit – Information Technology manages the day-to-day IT driven audits, the IT components of non-IT engagements and acts in an advisory capacity on internal control (SOX) responsibilities for IT operations. The incumbent will hire, train, develop and coach the IT audit staff. The role will act on behalf of the VP, Internal Audit when interacting with various internal stakeholders and outsiders, as appropriate.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategically, develop and execute assigned components of the annual Business/Operations/IT risk assessment and audit plans with a greater focus on IT risks and impacts to the company

  • Oversee a small team of professionals conducting IT-related audits, with a focus on 3rd party audits.

  • Manages the IT portion of the relationships with consultants and external auditors to complete any non-SOX related audit testing within prescribed deadlines; guide all stakeholders through such processes and report to/advise management on progress, findings and action planning.

  • Collaborate with other internal audit team members to design and execute the IT portion of integrated audits covering information technology and ensure that an efficient internal control environment exists.

  • Establish and steward relationships with senior IT leaders to develop a reputation as a trusted partner

  • Act as an advisor to the individuals responsible for IT SOX testing as needed in their efforts to streamline existing SOX controls and implement new SOX IT controls as the Company grows and evolves

  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of Vertex’s core business and contributes to the development of a risk and control assurance program that fits with the growth of the firm

  • Represent the IA function through interactions with senior leaders

  • Strategically involved in the development of the annual risk assessment and participating in the annual interviewing process of key stakeholders and senior leaders

  • Paradigm shift whereby continuously think strategically on ways to improve the IA model including staff development; audit optimization; and alignment to Vertex's risk appetite

  • Work collaboratively with the Internal Audit Finance counterpart

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Require advanced understanding of IT auditing, IT governance frameworks (ex. COBIT, ITIL, etc.) depending upon assigned audit area

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all audiences and persuade other to adopt alternate points of view or take action

  • Ability to work well and effectively on a team as well as independently with limited supervision

  • Ability to stay organized and manage to deadline with a sense of urgency to meet agreed on milestones

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and demonstrate adaptability and flexibility

  • Ability to interact independently with business management and external auditors on a regular basis

  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of complex technical and auditing concepts and apply those to audit.

  • Ability to proactively interact with key management to gather information, resolve audit-related problems, and make recommendations for business and process improvements

  • Foster an efficient, innovative, and collaborative work environment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, management information systems, or related field

  • Typically requires 10 years of progressive audit experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Supervisory experience including coaching and development of a more junior staff
