General Summary:

Vertex Cell and Genetic Therapies (VCGT) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate to join our Analytical Development, Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) team. The ideal candidate enjoys teamwork, is enthusiastic, self-motivated and flexible, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful applicant will execute and develop a variety of analytical assays for our cell therapy program. The position will be based in Boston, MA.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read, understand and execute technical instructions (e.g., protocols, test methods, SOPs, policies)
  • Perform a variety of cell biology and molecular biology assays (e.g., cell counting, ELISA, cell-based potency assay, ddPCR)
  • Perform data analysis (e.g., graphing and data reduction, basic statistics) and document result
  • Support basic lab equipment maintenance and basic lab operations (e.g., solution preparation, re-ordering of reagents and consumables)
  • Deliver technical presentations at group meetings, posters at internal forums etc.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Prior experience working in Biosafety Level 2 laboratories.
  • Proficient in cell biology techniques, including working in biosafety cabinet, aseptic technique, passaging and maintaining cell culture (e.g., cell line, primary cell and iPSC cell).
  • Experience with a variety of biology lab equipment e.g., multi-channel pipettes, centrifuge, microscope, plate reader
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Attend to details, critical thinking skills

Education and Experience:

  • Masters Degree (or equivalent degree) and 0-2 years of relevant employment experience, or
  • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent degree) and 4+ years of relevant employment experience
