Senior Director, US Market Access Data & Analytics Center of Excellence

The Senior Director is responsible for the development of the US Market Access (USMA) Data & Analytics Center of Excellence (COE). This is an exciting, high-profile opportunity for a senior leader, expert in advanced Managed Markets analytics that has delivered ground-breaking outcomes that assure patient access to equally innovative and transformative rare disease therapies. The ideal candidate is not only passionate about people and patients, but is also focused on driving for results, and is adept strategically and willing to be involved in hands-on execution. As this role will interact with executive Commercial and Vertex leadership, the successful individual must possess excellent communication skills, a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy in managing and creating deliverables as well as be highly self-directed in engaging and influencing stakeholders in cross-functional initiatives.

The aim of the Data & Analytics COE is to establish industry-leading capabilities across the core areas of analytics, forecasting, reporting and insight capabilities. It will leverage and advance best practices in capabilities and operations in the US and in collaboration with Data & Technology Engineering (DTE), GIACO (Global Insights Analytics and Commercial Operations) and the RWD@V Governance Committee. The remit of the COE is to accelerate the development and application of advanced analytic methodologies to efficiently solve business problems. The COE also strives to scale and deploy these capabilities in a highly efficient manner so that continuous innovation can be pursued.

This position is a Hybrid role in our Boston Seaport office.

Job Description

  • Develop and execute a data and analytics strategy for advancing USMA capabilities and business impact.
  • Shape the COE organization model, processes, resourcing, and long-term roadmap and effectively interface with Data, Technology & Engineering (aka IT); DSS (Data Strategy & Solutions); the USMA leadership team; and other key stakeholders across the Vertex analytics community.
  • Spearhead the partnership with our DTE organization to drive program management activities and ensure data process, platforms and priorities are aligned and accelerate analytics and insight capabilities.
  • Lead team members to create meaningful insights that enable the broader organization to understand the full 360-degree view of customers across the market access ecosystem.
  • Oversee the analyses of secondary data sources to deliver a comprehensive understanding of therapeutic area-specific payer and managed care customer landscape and uncover deep insights that will inform payer, access, contracting and reimbursement strategies.
  • Stay up to date with emerging analytics, insights and data management technologies and methodologies, and assess their relevance to the USMA organization and broader Vertex business and encourage adoption of new technology and processes.
  • Develop quantifiable goals; advise on strategies and experimentation to achieve business goals.
  • Act as champion for a robust data culture and digital capabilities. Systematically guide training of the broader USMA organization in data analytics skills
  • Evangelize data-informed decision-making and proactively identify analytics needs across the USMA organization and highly experienced in developing effective, strategic partnerships with business leaders to identify and prioritize analytics projects, measure performance, and incubate new opportunities
  • Establish a data governance structure to standardize data processes across the organization, ensure that data roles are clearly defined across Commercial and within USMA
  • Build, coach and inspire a high performing team. Manage the team’s performance and identify opportunities for ongoing growth and development.
  • Management of budget and external vendors

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or related technical field. MBA and/or MS a strongly preferred.
  • 12+ years of healthcare experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, health care, and/or strategy consulting, with 5+ years of specific experience and expertise in coverage, access and reimbursement drivers impacting the biopharmaceutical industry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of supervisory/management experience. Demonstrated track record to develop team talent as a leader in an organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of Market Access/Managed Markets and Trade data sets, systems, and transactional data, including medical and pharmacy claims
  • Strong experience in problem-solving, communication, leadership, strategic and critical thinking, responsibility, and professionalism
  • Experience and successful track record in leading change and operating complex initiatives, gaining the necessary buy-in from leadership and key stakeholders, spanning multiple data sources, complex application environments and a strong understanding of data warehousing, data modeling and data engineering
  • Extensive experience in business analytics. Strong track record of taking complex business questions and translating them effectively into data-driven solutions
  • Strong understanding of data science, statistical models, and tools; Hands on experience is a plus
  • Experience with data and analytics platforms and technologies in the cloud
  • Strong business acumen with exceptional numerical and analytical skills, and a demonstrated ability to develop and deliver clear executive level presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with direct and influence without authority, and implement change successfully in a fast paced and complex operating environment
  • Familiarity with limited distribution networks, specialty, and rare disease products. Cell and gene therapy experience preferred.
  • Strong vendor and budget management skills
